Nova Scotia Nominee Program

Nova Scotia is a small province located in the Atlantic region of Canada. Even though small, Nova Scotia is a well-known cultural hub and has a high standard of living. The province is especially famous for its delicious cuisine and stunning coastal beauty.

The provincial nominee program of Nova Scotia is the Nova Scotia Nominee Program. This program targets immigrants with the desired skills and work experience as per the labour market needs of the province.

You can apply for a Canada PR through the NSNP under the following streams:

Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry

This program is aligned with the federal Express Entry Program. Launched on 1st January 2015, this stream targets high-skilled professionals with at least a post-secondary qualification. Eligible candidates must have work experience in any one of the 11 eligible occupations. These are:

  • NOC 1111- Financial Auditors and Accountants
  • NOC 1114- Other financial officers
  • NOC 1123- Professional occupations in marketing, advertising, and public relations
  • NOC 1241- Administrative Assistants
  • NOC 1311- Accounting technicians and bookkeepers
  • NOC 2131- Civil Engineer
  • NOC 3012- Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
  • NOC 3233- Licensed practical nurses
  • NOC 4021- College and other vocational instructors
  • NOC 4211- Paralegal and related occupations
  • NOC 4212- Social and Community service workers

Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry

If you have previous work experience of at least 1 year in Nova Scotia, then this stream is for you. You can apply for the Canada PR Visa process by applying for a provincial nomination through this stream. This stream is an easy pathway for highly skilled professionals with prior Nova Scotia work experience to apply for the Canada PR process.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

Nova Scotia, through its Labour Market Priorities Stream, targets Express Entry candidates who meet specific labour market demands of the province. The occupation list under this stream is dynamic and may change with each invitation round.

However, you must first receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program within the Express Entry system to apply. You also need to submit proof showing that you have sufficient funds to establish yourself and your family in the province and pay other immigration-related costs.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities for Physicians

If you are a doctor with an approved offer of employment under NOC 3111-Specialist Physician or NOC 3112- Family Physician, you can apply under this stream. It is mandatory to have an approved job opportunity from IWK or NSHA in Nova Scotia to be eligible to apply.

Besides meeting the minimum work experience requirements for the Express Entry system, you also need to show proof of having adequate funds. You should have enough funds to take care of yourself and your family once you immigrate to the province.

Skilled Worker Stream

This stream is for foreign workers who have a valid job offer from an employer in Nova Scotia. This stream is open to all skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled workers with a job offer from Nova Scotia.

You must have a full-time, permanent job offer from an employer in Nova Scotia, and at least one year of work experience in your nominated occupation. If you fall under the semi-skilled or low-skilled category, you need to have at least six months of work experience.

Occupation in Demand Stream

This stream targets candidates working in NOC C level jobs that are in demand in Nova Scotia. Candidates who have a full-time, permanent job offer in NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates) or NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers) can apply under this stream.

You need to have a language proficiency score of at least CLB 4 and sufficient funds to be eligible under this stream.

Entrepreneur Stream

This stream is best suited for candidates who want to set up and run their own business in Nova Scotia. To apply, you must have a net worth of at least CAD 600,000 and should be able to invest CAD 150,000 to set up a business in Nova Scotia.

International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

If you have completed at least a 2-year course from a community college or university in Nova Scotia, then you can apply for a provincial nomination through this stream. This stream can prove to be a quick route for your Canada PR Visa process.

Physician Stream

This stream is open to foreign doctors who have a valid job offer from Nova Scotia’s healthcare authorities. This stream is open to general physicians, specialist physicians, and family physicians.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

Nova Scotia is one of the 4 provinces participating in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program of Canada. The other three provinces are New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. To apply for the Canada PR process through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program, you must have a job offer from a designated employer in the province.
