How to get Express Entry points with a Canadian job offer

If you are planning to move to Canada through Express Entry System, then you will get some additional CRS, Comprehensive Rating System points for having a valid Canadian Job Offer with you.

You will either get an additional 50 or 200 points. The more CRS points you will have, the better will be the chances of getting an ITA, Invitation To Apply.

If the candidate qualifies, then he will receive 50 points, but in order to get 200 points, the job offer must be in these six occupations, and one of these occupations (legislators) is only for Canadian citizens.

What is Express Entry Program?

The most popular route to apply for a PR Visa for Canada is through the Express Entry Program. It is an application management system that manages applications for the economic immigration programs of Canada.

These are:

  1. FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program)
  2. FSTP (Federal Skilled Trades Program)
  3. CEC (Canadian Experience Class)
FSWP (Federal Skilled Worker Program)

FSWP is Canada’s immigration program for skilled workers and professionals around the world who want to migrate to Canada. Through this program, Canada welcomes an average of 1,10,000 immigrants every year based on their ability to establish themselves economically in Canada’s workforce. Most of the applications are processed within six months.

The candidates who have not lived in Canada before and are not skilled professionals use this program for migrating to Canada. Eligible candidates need to submit their Express Entry profile. Then the candidate will receive his CRS score based on different factors such as age, language skills, education, and work experience. After submitting the complete application the candidate can expect to receive his PR.

Usually, the Canadian Government holds Express Entry draws every two weeks inviting the candidates with the highest CRS score to apply for PR.

FSTP (Federal Skilled Trades Program)

This program is a dedicated immigration pathway for skilled trade workers to immigrate to the country. FSTP candidates may have lower CRS scores compared to the other candidates because they need not show their level of education.

IRCC holds program-specific Express Entry draws for FSTP candidates. It provides more CRS scores to the candidates who have studied as well as worked in Canada. Candidates with Canadian work experience are most likely to succeed in the Canadian labor market.

Eligible candidates need to submit their Express Entry profile on IRCC’s website. Then the candidate will receive his CRS score based on different factors such as age, language skills, education, and Canadian work & study experience. After submitting the complete application the candidate can expect to receive his PR.

CEC (Canadian Experience Class)

CEC is for temporary foreign workers and international graduates who want to gain Canadian work experience. The candidates who are skilled workers have the advantage of this program. The ones with Canadian work experience can get extra CRS points under this program, and they need not demonstrate settlement funds to support themselves financially to IRCC.

The application procedure for CEC is also the same as the other two programs.

What is a valid Job Offer?

A full-time job offer with continuous paid work is considered valid by IRCC. ‘Full time’ refers to at least 30 hours per week by one employer—or up to two for FSTP candidates. It cannot be seasonal work, and it has to be ongoing for at least one year after you get your permanent resident visa.

Also, the job offer should be from a skilled occupation under these categories 00, 0, A, or B on the National Occupational Qualification system.

The employer needs to get a positive LMIA, Labor Market Impact Assessment to score the points. LMIA is a document that the employer needs to hire a foreign candidate, which shows that there will be no negative impacts of hiring a foreign candidate on Canada’s job market.

Certain occupations are exempt by LMIA. A candidate can claim the offer points from these occupations only if he has worked for them for one year, and will continue to work with them for one year after receiving the permanent residence visa.

If the candidate is working in Canada on an Open Work Permit and the employer hasn’t done LMIA then the candidate will not get any offer points.

Immigration officer and IRCC in case of regulated occupations, must be convinced by the file of the candidate in order to get qualified to be licensed or certified by the regulatory body in Canada.

Concluding everything a candidate can get a job offer if he fulfills the following criteria:

  • it is for a full time, continuous, paid position for at least one year in a skilled occupation;
  • your employer has a positive LMIA that approves the offer and names you and your position; or
  • if you are currently working for the same employer listed on your LMIA-based work permit, and you are authorized to work in Canada on the day of your application and when the permanent resident visa is issued and you have a valid job offer for at least one year after you get your permanent resident visa; or
  • if you have a valid work permit for a skilled occupation that is exempt from the LMIA requirement, and you have one year of full-time work experience for that employer, and a valid job offer for at least one year after you get your permanent resident visa.

Why PNP draws:

Since the start of the year,
IRCC has been inviting CEC, Canadian Experience Class well as PNP, Provincial Nominee Program candidates. To fulfill its labor market demands, IRCC is focusing on inviting PNP candidates from outside Canada. In the previous draw, it has invited 888 with a minimum score of 744.

Because of the pandemic, the Canadian government had restricted the entries on the borders due to which,
even the candidates who had been approved for PR could not migrate to Canada.

Most of the time, IRCC held Express Entry draws inviting PNP & CEC candidates. But during the pandemic, it hold draws for all the programs which included FSWP, Foreign Skilled Worker Program candidates as well as FSTP, Foreign Skilled Trades Program candidates, although FSTP candidates got their draw in August 2020, since their scores tend to be lower than other programs.

From the beginning of the year, it held draws for PNP candidates only because the CEC candidates are most likely to be in Canada. PNP candidates have to demonstrate to the province that they will provide economic benefit to the province.

In the last five draws, IRCC invited PNP candidates in a row. It has aimed to take in 105,800 immigrants through Express Entry in 2021 and 110,500 in 2022.

About Express Entry Process:

It is an application management system that manages applications for the economic immigration programs of CanadaCanadia Experience ClassFederal Skilled Worker Program, & the Federal Skilled Trades Program are the three programs that use Express Entry. PNP candidates in the Express Entry have already qualified for one of these programs.

Express Entry uses CRS, Comprehensive Ranking System which is a points-based system used to rank the profiles of the candidates. The top-scoring candidates receive an ITA and then they can apply for PR through regular Express Entry draws.

PNP candidates automatically earn 600 points in their score for CRS, Comprehensive Ranking System so they have good chances of getting an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for PR via Express Entry.

Who can be sponsored for Canadian immigration?

Every year around 1,00,000 family class immigrants migrate in Canada. Most of these immigrants come through sponsorship categories like Spouses, Partners, and Children category or Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

Canadian Government allows its permanent residents to sponsor their family members to come and live in the same country. These can be spouses, common-law partners, or conjugal partners. There are two options to choose from while sponsoring, Inland & Outland sponsorship.

IRCC has prescribed some rules according to which applicants can sponsor their family members.

  • should live in Canada, or is a Canadian Citizen planning to return to the country;

  • have a parent that is still alive;
  • the location of their parents is unknown;
  • they were abandoned by their parents;
  • they are being cared for by someone else while one or both of their parents are still alive;

  • the sponsor should not have any relative that is a Canadian citizen, PR or is registered under the Indian Act.
