Canada is continuously holding Express Entry draws for provincial nominee candidates. It has invited a total of 1,070 Express Entry candidates on February 2.
IRCC issued applications for Provincial Nominee Program candidates only. It invited candidates with a CRS score of 674. All the candidates who had applied received an automatic 600 points by holding a nomination from PNP. The lowest-scoring candidates without the nomination would have needed just 74 base CRS points.
Invited candidates have 60 calendar days to apply for the nomination.
New Express Entry in 2022
The Canadian Government has been planning to make changes to the Express Entry in 2022. In the 2021 federal budget, the immigration minister was given more flexibility to invite Express Entry candidates to meet the labor market needs of Canada.
Express Entry eligible occupations may change when the new Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) system comes into effect, and replaces the current National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels. For now, Express Entry only recognizes work experience from NOC 0, A, and B occupations. This type of classification will be changed when TEER comes into force in late 2022.

In 2021 Canada held program-specific Express Entry draws for PNP and CEC candidates in 2021. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, FSWP candidates were the main source of Express Entry immigrants.
FSWP candidates apply from outside the country, compared to PNP or CEC candidates. Last year, IRCC focused more on admitting applicants who were already in Canada due to the restrictions imposed on travel. CEC candidates are most likely to be in Canada already since they are required to have at least one year of Canadian work experience. PNP candidates are already nominated for immigration by the provinces, which means they have demonstrated that they can help support regional labor markets.
What is Express Entry?
It is an application management system that manages applications for the economic immigration programs of Canada. Canadia Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, & the Federal Skilled Trades Program are the three programs that use Express Entry. PNP candidates in the Express Entry have already qualified for one of these programs.
Express Entry uses CRS, Comprehensive Ranking System which is a points-based system used to rank the profiles of the candidates. The top-scoring candidates receive an ITA and then they can apply for PR. After that, IRCC reviews the application and makes the decision. Then they may set up an interview or ask for more documents or biometrics.
If the application gets approved, IRCC issues a COPR, Confirmation of Permanent Residence. Approved PR’s can then complete their landing process. If they are staying outside Canada, they can access pre-arrival services for settling in Canada.
